Easy One-Pan Meals to Feed the Family
Hearty meals are always a big hit in my house, but feeding the family well doesn’t need to take a long time to prep – or to clear up afterwards. There are plenty of meals that require just one pot or pan, where you can add in all of the ingredients for a delicious family meal.
Personally speaking, I’m quite happy to spend a little more time in prep to avoid lots of clearing up afterwards. Chopping up veg is a lot more fun than washing dishes – but that’s just my opinion of course.
Anyway, here are just a few examples of one-pan meals that will feed your family. They’ll be happy with their meal, and you’ll save yourself quite a bit of time clearing up.
Classic Chicken Dinner
This type of dinner could require the use of multiple pots and pans just to get everything coked and baked – but there is also a version where you use just one pan.
You will need to cook your chicken breasts first in the pan, wash it out, and then put the chicken back in with the rest of your ingredients. This is a very important thing to remember.
For a classic one-pan chicken dinner, you can season the chicken, potatoes, and any veggies you like with ranch seasoning mix. A dinner with carrots and baby potatoes is great for this type of dinner.
I also like using my halogen oven to cook a whole roast chicken – it’s a great way to get a nice family roast, and it’s quicker than using the conventional oven. It’s best to start with the chicken breast side down and then flip it over half way through. You can add the vegetables at that point if you wish.
Another meat-based dinner that you can make in just one pan is pork tenderloin dinner. You are going to cook a pork tenderloin that has marinated in your preferred marinade, along with your choice of veggies and potatoes.
Baby red potatoes with carrots are really good to combine with the tenderloin. Some recommended seasonings include rosemary, thyme, garlic, salt and pepper, olive oil, and an onion. This can all be placed in a baking pan and cooked at the same time.
If pasta is what you are after, then making a baked ziti is an excellent way to have a very satisfying meal using just one pan. You can actually mix all the ingredients in the pan without even needing a mixing bowl, but this is entirely up to you.
The only thing you should do beforehand is brown your meat, which will be ground Italian sausage. Once that is done, everything else is cooked in a single pan.
Add the meat, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, cheese, herbs, heavy cream, ziti pasta, and seasonings.
Steak and Potatoes
This is a good recipe if you want steak and potatoes, but don’t want to worry about a complicated recipe with a ton of different pans.
Simply add the raw steak into a pan with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, seasonings, and minced garlic. Also add in some chopped potatoes and cook it all together in the oven.
Stir fry is a great way to get a quick family meal that’s easy to prepare and doesn’t require too much clean up time afterwards. It’s also wonderfully versatile – you can use different meats, vegetables and sauces and introduce as much variety as you like.
It’s all about chopping stuff up beforehand. I quite often use chicken and whatever veg I have lying around. Peppers and onions are great, but you can put peas, green beans or just about anything else that you have to hand in. It’s a great way to use up anything you have lying around.
